Who we are

Viola Joke (“we”, “us”) operates violajoke.com, a website offering viola jokes and a one-time paid premium upgrade. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.

What we collect

• Account data. If you create an account, we store your email address and — when you sign in with Google — your display name and profile picture. Authentication is handled by Google Firebase Authentication; we never see or store your password.
• Usage data tied to your account. Your saved favourite jokes, your daily joke count, and whether you hold a premium entitlement.
• Payment data. Payments are processed by Stripe. We receive the email address used at checkout, the amount paid, whether a discount applied, and a Stripe session identifier. We never receive or store your full card number.
• Submitted jokes. If you submit a joke, we store its text, the name you supply (optional), and the IP address of the submission for spam prevention.
• Newsletter signups. If you provide your email for launch updates, we store that address.
• Analytics. We use Vercel Analytics and, where enabled, Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic patterns.
• Local storage. For visitors without an account, we keep your daily joke count, your chosen content mode, and your joke votes in your browser's local storage. This never leaves your device.

Why we collect it

We use this data to provide the service you asked for: keeping you signed in, remembering your favourites, applying the free daily limit, granting premium access after a purchase, reviewing submitted jokes, preventing spam and abuse, and understanding how the site is used so we can improve it.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the providers that make the site work:

• Google Firebase — authentication and database hosting
• Stripe — payment processing
• Vercel — website hosting and analytics
• Web3Forms — delivering joke-submission notifications to us

We may also disclose data where we are legally required to do so.

How long we keep it

Account data is retained while your account exists. Because premium is a lifetime entitlement, purchase records are kept for as long as we need them to honour that access and to meet tax and accounting obligations. Submitted jokes that are rejected are deleted during review.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict how we use it. Email privacy@violajoke.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Deleting your account also removes your favourites and usage data. Note that deleting your account does not automatically refund a premium purchase — see our Refund Policy.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. Backstage Mode contains adult-oriented humour and is intended for users aged 18 and over.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the “last updated” date at the top of this page.
